Brief Professional History for Robert Wright
Upon graduation from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in 1974, Robert (Bob) began his professional career in Stockton, CA. There he worked for three different firms producing drawings for single family homes, office buildings, high schools, and financial institutions. With the State required internship completed, Bob was eligible and passed the licensing requirements for the State of California.
In 1980, he and his wife relocated to Marin County where he began his 32 year relationship with Treffinger, Walz, & MacLeod (TWM) Architects and Planners. Within a year Bob was promoted to an Associate of the firm and by 1989 he had become a Principal and Owner. The firm was a nationally recognized company responsible for a broad range of project types and received a number of local, state, and national awards for excellence in design.
As well as being an owner and a member of the firm’s Board of Directors, Bob served as Project Architect and Principal-in-Charge of a number of high profile projects including Skywalker Ranch Main Office Building and Recreation Center for Lucasfilm, Growers Square Office Complex, 1300 beds of student housing for Sonoma State University, Napa Valley Country Club, Regency Center, Drakes Landing, and Woodhollow Office Complexes, a number of automobile dealerships, and the Master Planning for the 40 acre Shoreline Center, just to name a few. However, Mr. Wright’s primary focus was with the firm’s designs for over 25 Senior Assisted Care Facilities. These projects are located from Seattle to San Diego to Las Vegas and Reno. Also during Bob’s tenure with TWM, the firm was responsible for such diverse projects as the Ashland Oregon Shakespeare Festival Allen Pavilion, the convent for the Sisters of St Dominic, Pier 41 Ferry Terminal in San Francisco, and Smith Ranch Luxury Senior Retirement Community.
In 2012, Bob decided to sell his ownership in TWM to the two remaining younger owners and he started his own firm, Wright Architecture Studio (WAS). WAS is a general architectural practice and currently is producing designs for single family homes, commercial and office complexes, as well as senior care facilities and mixed-use projects. Bob maintains active licenses in Washington State and California as well as having NCARB Registration facilitating licensing in all 50 States.
